Stone finish on plaster
Artist, Paul Borda, brings us this wonderfully whimsical version of our beloved and terrifying friend, Baba Jaga/Yaga. She rides through the sky in her mortar, using a pestle as a rudder, and sweeping away her trail with a broom. On her Mortar are carvings of her house on chicken feet and the three riders of Morning, Sunset and Night. On her Pestle is the one and only Vasilissa the Brave.
This piece measures 7 1/4"h x 7 1/2"w x 4"d and is available in either the stone or wooden finishes shown here. See our jewelry page for his bronze pendant version of the piece

Toporets
The Hutsul Ceremonial Axe is know as a "Toporets" or "Bartka". It was a multi-purpose tool carried as a weapon, walking cane, woodlands tool and ritual tool. One of the ancient symbols of Perun, the thunderer, axes were believed to stave off lightning. They were also used to bless doorways. Their presence was needed at the birth of a male child in order that he be proficient in many skills.
These carved wooden axes are for ceremonial use only. They are still used today in regional ethnic dances and in traditional Hutsul wedding ceremonies.
These toporets are each hand-carved, no two are alike. As with the carved crosses and embroideries that come from this area, each is believed to "have its own soul". They are from the Bukovina area of the Carpathians and measure between 20 and 22 1/2 inches apiece.

Men's Shirt
Only one in stock - This is a size EXTRA LARGE. It seems to have a small neck for such a large shirt, but the neckline is open and I've been assured that they are all that way.
This shirt is from the Carpathian mountains in the Ukraine. I know that for a fact as that's where I bought it. Certain areas in the region have black as the traditional fabric color for dress shirts, instead of white.
One theory is that it represents the amazingly fertile soil of the region. The shirt is stitched completely by had in a cross-
stitch with solar patterns for strength and health

Antique Beaded Vest
I cannot even begin to fathom the number of hours that went into making this incredible piece of artwork. . The white fabric is goatskin, the lining is flanel. It is estimated to be about 60 years old.
Click on any of the pictures below to expand it to full page size. The vest is from Bukovina in the Carpathian Mountains in the Ukraine. These vests were a great symbol of wealth and prosperity and certian ritual acts, like baking the Koliada breads, could not be performed without one's vest on.
Vest has some wear but is in exceptionally good shape for an antique.
